Wyoming Truth Wins 6 More Journalism Awards

News outlet has earned nearly 40 awards in less than 3 years
Latest honors come from the National Newspaper Association Foundation
The Wyoming Truth, one of the biggest news outlets in the state of Wyoming, won six journalism awards in the just announced 2024 Better Newspaper Editorial Contest by the National Newspaper Association Foundation. The Wyoming Truth was honored for: best profile feature story; best education/literacy story; best business story; best localized national story; best feature photo; and best front-page design.
There were 1,513 entries in the Better Newspaper Editorial Contest from at least 92 newspapers in 32 states. Judging was performed primarily by active community newspaper editors and publishers, as well as retired university journalism professors and retired or former newspaper professionals. Established in 1885, the National Newspaper Association (NNA) is the voice of America’s community newspapers and is the one of the largest newspaper associations in the country.
Since its founding less than three years ago, the Wyoming Truth has won nearly 40 awards for virtually every aspect of its journalism, including for long-form feature writing, beat reporting, general reporting, news columns, social justice reporting, editorials, political news, political features, education news, education features, business news, business features, front page design, editorial cartoons and feature photography.
Last year, the Wyoming Truth received five awards from the National Newspaper Association Foundation’s Better Newspaper Contest for investigative reporting, feature writing, education news, editorials and photography.
In May this year, the Wyoming Truth won a dozen journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, one of the industry’s standard bearers, in a competition that includes print, online and broadcast news outlets in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
In the SPJ contest, the Wyoming Truth was recognized for virtually every aspect of its news operation covering the state of Wyoming, including long form features, business features, editorial cartoons, beat reporting, business news, front page design, feature photography, news columns, political features, education features, political news and education news.
In the prior year, in its first full year as a daily news operation, the Wyoming Truth won 13 awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Last year, the Wyoming Truth’s political correspondent won the National Press Club’s 2023 Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism. The award honored excellence and objectivity in political coverage by reporters 34 years old or younger. Last year, another Wyoming Truth writer won the Wyoming Arts Council’s 2023 Fellowships in Visual Arts, Creative Writing and Performing Arts. In addition, the Wyoming Truth won “Best Coverage of a Local News Story of the Year” for its sex trafficking series in 2023 in the “Best of the West Media Awards” presented by the American Advertising Federation Western Region.
The Wyoming Truth is a member of the national and regional Society of Professional Journalists, the National Newspaper Association, the Associated Press and Lion Publishers, a professional association for local independent news publishers in the United States and Canada.
